Racial Killing Spree to Include President Obama
Suspects Contest Arrest
JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- Two men charged with plotting a racial killing spree that was to include President Barack Obama argued in federal court Thursday that they were illegally arrested and searched.
Arguments on their efforts to get government evidence against them dismissed are scheduled to continue Friday in federal court in west Tennessee.
Prosecutors say law enforcement officers who arrested Daniel Cowart and Paul Schlesselman acted properly without arrest or search warrants because the two were armed and dangerous.
Authorities describe Cowart and Schlesselman as white supremacist skinheads who were plotting to kill dozens of black people, including Obama, during last fall's presidential campaign. They are jailed without bond. No trial date has been set.
